Don’t Skip Your Next Dental Visit

Have you been receiving reminders from your dental office that it’s time to schedule your next appointment, only to quickly forget about it? Many people delayed routine visits over the past year due to the pandemic, while for others life is just too busy at the moment. With warmer weather approaching it may be easy to skip your next dental visit, however, consider these reasons to get in for a check-up.

Prevention – There’s a saying that goes “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”, and nothing could be more accurate when it comes to your dental health. If a dental condition starts causing you pain, it may have progressed to a point where more extensive and expensive treatment will be needed, if your tooth can be saved at all. By keeping up with your routine dental exams, professional cleaning, and necessary x-rays, you are setting yourself up for the best dental health possible.

Time and Money – Missing dental appointments costs you time and money. If you have dental insurance, most plans have a “use it or lose it” policy where if you do not take advantage of your benefits in a timely manner, you will lose them. Most dental benefit plans will cover two preventive appointments a year, so you should take advantage. If you only call the dentist once you are in pain, you will likely spend more time in the dental chair than if you made time for your routine check-ups.

Overcoming Fear – If it has been years since you’ve seen a dentist, it’s never too late to get your smile back on track. Your reasons for skipping dental care in the past aren’t important, it’s just important to take the first step forward towards your oral health. Dentists today have many options to help patients feel comfortable and decrease their dental anxiety, so don’t delay any longer.

Besides these reasons, good oral health is directly related to overall health. When your dentist sees you regularly, we are in better position to catch and fix problems early. For example, catching cavities when they are still repairable, or gum disease while it is still reversible. Make that next appointment and get your oral health back on track this summer!
