Tooth Extractions

Excessive tooth decay, infection, and crowding can all lead to a tooth needing to be extracted. Most often, extractions are needed to improve the health of a patient’s mouth if there is an issue. Some extractions are necessary if there is no other way to save the tooth in question.

Removing teeth can be a simple and quick procedure. At Calm Waters Dentistry, we also provide bone grafting if the patient is interested in preserving the bone for tooth replacement options in the future.

Wisdom Teeth Extractions

The third molars, which are commonly called the wisdom teeth, are typically the last teeth to come in. Wisdom teeth usually appear between the ages of 17 and 21. As you get older, the bones in the mouth become harder, making them difficult to remove.

A consultation with Dr. Wentworth can help determine whether you or your child could benefit from wisdom teeth extractions. Because they are the last to erupt, there is often not enough room for the wisdom teeth to grow in as they should. When there is not sufficient space, they may become impacted (unable to breakthrough gum tissue or jawbone), or they may grow in at an incorrect angle. If they do erupt, they can be difficult to main hygienically and often lead to decay and infection. Schedule a consult today to learn if your mouth would benefit wisdom teeth removal.
