There are basically two types of dentures, complete and partial. Complete dentures are made when a patient has no teeth, and partial dentures replace a few or several missing teeth when a patient still has other teeth remaining. The remaining teeth serve as anchors that the denture secures onto for stability. This results in no movement or slippage like that experienced by traditional denture wearers.

Throughout your lifetime, your denture will need to be relined or replaced due to wear that occurs each day. Relining or rebasing is the process of reshaping the inside of the denture to make sure it is comfortable and has retention. As you age, your bone in your mouth naturally changes and reshapes which may cause your dentures to loosen. Loose dentures may irritate your gums and wiggle when you are chewing. • Brush your dentures twice a day to remove food, plaque and bacteria from the surface. This will also help prevent them from staining.
• When cleaning your dentures, we recommend standing over a full sink of water or a towel prevent your dentures from breaking if dropped.
• While your dentures are out of your mouth, brush your gums, roof of your mouth and tongue to prevent any bacteria from building up in your mouth. Fungal infections can occur in denture wearers due to not keeping the mouth clean.
• Always keep your dentures soaking in a solution or plain water. If dentures dry out or hot water is used, they can warp and change shape.
